President Trump announced early Tuesday that he would allow Japan and South Korea to buy a \u201csubstantially increased\u201d amount of sophisticated U.S. military equipment in the wake of the latest threat out of North Korea.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am allowing Japan & South Korea to buy a substantially increased amount of highly sophisticated military equipment from the United States,\u201d Trump tweeted Tuesday.<\/p>\n

His message comes just one day after he held a call with South Korean President Moon Jae-in to discuss North Korea\u2019s claimed test of a hydrogen bomb. According to the White House, the two leaders agreed to \u201cmaximize pressure\u201d on North Korea by using \u201call means at their disposal.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the call Monday, the White House said, Trump provided his \u201cconceptual approval\u201d for South Korea\u2019s purchase of \u201cmany billions of dollars\u2019\u201d worth of U.S. military weapons and equipment. Though details have yet to be released, the leaders hoped to signal that the countries were working together to boost a defensive response to Kim Jong Un\u2019s threat.<\/p>\n

South Korea\u2019s presidential office also said in a statement that Trump and South Korea’s president agreed to remove the limit on the payload of South Korean missiles as part of the countries\u2019 response to the North\u2019s move.<\/p>\n
