This is in contrast to the fate of former President Donald Trump, who earlier this year was criminally indicted by special counsel Jack Smith for retaining classified documents in his Mar-a-Lago resort, after he left the White House, and for allegedly not cooperating with the National Archives when they tried to get them back. The case is set to go to trial in May. Trump has repeatedly denied all wrongdoing.
