Vice President Kamala Harris may have officially lost the 2024 presidential election. However, one of her former aides still sees a way in which Harris can still become the 47th president of the country. It is just a highly elaborate scheme that would require a little help from the current commander in chief, President Joe Biden.
During an appearance on CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday, Jamal Simmons, Vice President Kamala Harris’s former communications director, proposed that President Joe Biden resign the presidency in the immediate future, which would allow Harris to replace him and be sworn in as the president, and serve out the remainder of his term, which ends when President-elect Trump is inaugurated on January 20, 2025.
“Joe Biden has been a phenomenal president. He’s lived up to so many of the promises he’s made,” Simmons said to Sunday’s State of the Union panel. “There’s one promise left that he can fulfill – being a transitional figure. He could resign the presidency in the next 30 days, making Kamala Harris the United States president. He would absolve her from having to oversee the January 6 transition of her own defeat.”
“And, it would make sure, it would dominate the news, at a point where Democrats have to learn, drama and transparency and doing things that the public want to see,” Simmons said. “This is the moment for us to change the entire perspective of how Democrats operate.”
“This has now jumped from an internet meme to a Sunday morning show,” State of the Union host Dana Bash said in response.
