Jury selection for the corruption trial involving New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez is scheduled to begin on Monday.

The case is centered on allegations that he and his wife Nadine acted to benefit foreign governments in countries such as Egypt and Qatar.

Menendez and his wife allegedly accepted bribes from businessmen Fred Daibes, Wael Hana and Jose Uribe in return for favors while he was chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

This is the second corruption trial Menendez has been involved in over the last 10 years.

The three-term senator has announced he will not be seeking reelection on the Democratic ticket this fall, although he has not ruled out running as an independent. That could complicate things for Democrats who have a narrow edge in the U.S. Senate and can hardly afford the prospect of a three-way election in the Democratic stronghold of New Jersey.
