Why the grotesque whitewashing of and pandering to Chinese dictator Xi Jinping?
Xi received an incredibly warm welcome in San Francisco for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, starting before he even arrived. Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) flew to China to pal around with Xi (and not dare mention China’s human rights abuses) while San Francisco finally decided to clean up its homeless encampments in preparation for Xi’s visit.
He was then greeted on the tarmac in San Francisco by good buddy Newsom and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, who clapped for him as he walked off the plane. President Joe Biden praised Xi because their meetings have “always been candid, straightforward, and useful,” and he managed to get his precious climate agreement that the Chinese Communist Party will almost certainly ignore. Even American CEOs attended so they could cozy up to Xi to make themselves even richer.
This is the same man responsible for carrying out a genocide of the Uyghurs in Xinjiang, a massive human rights abuse that includes forced labor (which has its ties to China’s climate projects that are so prioritized by Democrats and corporations) and forced sterilization. Thousands of Uyghurs have been thrown into concentration camps under Xi’s direction, and yet he receives a glowing welcome in the United States from American CEOs, Biden officials, and civilians.
