During his first formal press conference Thursday, Joe Biden revealed another first he has his sights set on. He hopes to become the nation’s first octogenarian commander-in-chief.
When asked by reporters whether he would run for reelection in 2024, Biden confirmed he planned to do so and said that was his “expectation.” His declaration apparently surprised the White House Press Corps because reporters had to ask repeatedly for clarification.
The disbelief wasn’t limited to the East Room of the White House as comments from the campaign trail resurfaced online. In December of 2019, nearly a full year before Election Day, Politico cited four people close to Biden that said the candidate had been signaling to aides that in the event he won he only planned on serving one term.
